Brockswood Animal Sanctuary
What a welcome surprise Enough animals and birds for the kids to get around and see, and they’re adding more. Plenty of space, and a kids’ play area, and one of the few places you can take a picnic and eat in the open. There is a café, but ‘limited’. Obviously better on a fine day as its very open air. I knew the place as ‘Cotwall end’ years ago, which became run down. The new people are building it up having inherited some of the original animals such as 'Jess' the donkey and 'Beatie' the pot bellied pig, and they have added to these. They are already doing a good job, and because they’re doing work on the land and enclosures, they’re only open weekends and school holidays, at present. Remember the site is now an animal sanctuary, but well worth a visit and support. Also its not expensive to visit with kids.

Wren's Nest National Nature Reserve This year
Wren's Nest is celebrating its 50th anniversary as a nature reserve. If
you enjoy hunting for fossils, this is a great place to come and bring
the children. Lovely walks, wild life, and the chance to discover your
own fossils - make sure you bring something to put your "treasures" in.
People come from all over the world to visit this site which used to be
a shallow sea 400 million years ago. Mary July 2006 |
