Anstruther fishing village
Picturesque harbour, interesting architecture throughout village.
Informative and fun fishing museum for children and adults. Disabled
friendly. Lifeboat station open some days. Small beach. Promenade walk
along harbour. Seating available Lovely shops and boutiques in town.
Good Fish and chips but expensive. Recommend nearby village for equal
quality, better value.
Boat trips to Isle of May from harbour-very good value.
Town has some quite steep slopes from sea-front to town.
Interesting pubs, good reasonable eating venues for families.

Falkland Palace

Now run by
the National Trust for Scotland, the old Royal Palace is worth a visit -
as are the lovely gardens.
The ancient Royal Burgh of Falkland itself has restaurants, small tea
rooms, craft and antique shops plus fascinating old buildings.
For the more energetic on a fine day there are so many walks to be
enjoyed. If you aren't fit enough to tackle the East Lomond Hill, head
up the West Port to the Estate and let the children feed the ducks.
Alternatively, for little ones, there is a good safe play park along
Balmblae with a shallow stream (burn) running through.

Elie windmill and saltpans
 |
|
|
Go along the narrow roads through Elie village along the front to the
old windmill and foundations of the saltpans where the sea water used to
be pumped up and heated to produce salt for export.
Lovely uncrowded spot for a picnic with beautiful view of the Forth
estuary. Rock pools for the children to explore.
On the
other side of the bay is a harbour and a fantastic sandy beach for the
kids to enjoy.
There a lot
of people stay in the cottages for summer breaks just for the beach and
view. Easily get to other coastal villages and St Andrews by car
Bit off the
beaten track, so still a good place to relax.
